Kenyan media personality Alex Mwakideu has expressed his admiration for the Raila Odinga International Stadium, describing it as a significant milestone in Kenya's development. On October 29, 2026, Mwakideu shared his thoughts on the stadium's progress, stating that it had surpassed his expectations. He reflected on the country's growth, noting that the stadium's scale was something he never thought he'd see in Kenya.
Mwakideu was particularly impressed by the stadium's appearance at night, praising its lighting and reported seating capacity of 60,000. He expressed his amazement, saying, "Nilikuja kuamini sasa kama itafika hapa naweza hivi Kenya. Sijaona… sijawahi kuona." His comments highlight the significant impact the stadium has had on his perception of Kenya's development.
The media personality emphasized that the stadium represents a level of construction and development he had not witnessed in Kenya before. He stated, "Ni kitu ambayo nimekuwa nikiiona ikifanyika tangu nilivyozaliwa huku Kenya, sijawahi kuona hivi," adding that he didn't believe any other region in the country had achieved similar development.
Mwakideu also noted a shift in Kenya's national conversation, with Kenyans increasingly discussing the construction of major sporting facilities. He mentioned, "We are speaking about stadiums now… we are talking about constructions of a stadium." This change in conversation reflects the excitement and anticipation surrounding the stadium's development.
The conversation around the stadium's opening also touched on entertainment, with Mwakideu referencing claims involving Harry Kane, Bayern Munich, and Ajax Amsterdam. He questioned the distinction between sporting events and other forms of live entertainment, comparing a football match to a music concert.
Mwakideu challenged the notion that a football match provides limited entertainment value, citing its 90-minute duration. He argued that this shouldn't diminish its value as a live experience, highlighting his enthusiasm for the stadium's development and Kenya's potential to host major sporting events.
The debate surrounding the stadium's development and its place in Kenya's entertainment industry continues. Mwakideu's comments have sparked discussion, with many Kenyans sharing their thoughts on the stadium's impact and the country's growth. The Raila Odinga International Stadium is set to become a significant venue for sports and entertainment in Kenya.
