Angolan rapper and activist MCK, whose real name is Katrogi Nhanga Lwamba, has expressed concerns that the Angolan government is undermining values and questioned the effectiveness of its anti-corruption policies. In an interview with journalist Jubileu of TV Maiombe, MCK stated that artists who denounce corrupt practices in Angola do not receive the recognition they deserve, unlike in other countries.

MCK drew a comparison with the trajectory of American rapper Kendrick Lamar, who has been recognized in the United States for addressing issues related to racism. He questioned what recognition an artist would receive in Angola for using music to denounce corruption. MCK highlighted the work of Angolan hip-hop artists, including himself, Filhos da Leste, Ikonoklasta, Carbono, and Terceira Divisão, who have been denouncing corruption and abuse of power for several years.

MCK criticized the involvement of artists in anti-corruption campaigns who, according to him, may have benefited from corrupt schemes. He described the fight against corruption in Angola as a "mere farce" and a distraction, as it does not involve a broad range of individuals and sectors that have contributed to exposing practices that harm the public interest.

MCK suggested that activists, investigative journalists, religious entities, traditional authorities, and community leaders should be heard in a serious, transversal, and non-selective anti-corruption council. He emphasized that these figures should play a significant role in defining strategies to prevent and combat corruption.

According to MCK, the Angolan hip-hop movement has been denouncing corrupt schemes and abuse of power for several years, long before the current governance cycle. He argued that the government's anti-corruption efforts are not comprehensive and do not involve key stakeholders.

MCK also expressed concerns that journalists and activists who have exposed cases of corruption, government incompetence, and other scandals should have a more significant role in shaping prevention and anti-corruption strategies. He emphasized the need for a more inclusive approach to addressing corruption in Angola.

The Angolan government's anti-corruption efforts have been questioned by MCK and other critics, who argue that the government's approach is selective and does not address the root causes of corruption. The issue remains a significant challenge for the country, with many calling for more effective and comprehensive measures to address it.
