Likoni MP Mishi Mboko has expressed confidence that the Coast region will vote for President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. Speaking during the issuance of 94,175 title deeds to residents of Kibaoni in Lunga Lunga constituency, Kwale county, Mboko said coastal residents are firmly behind Ruto's re-election. She cited land reforms and development projects as reasons for the region's support.
Mboko recounted the struggles coastal residents faced for decades over land ownership due to a lack of title documents. She said previous administrations failed to address longstanding land injustices at the Coast, subjecting residents to pain and uncertainty over ownership of land they had occupied for generations. Mboko noted that the President's visit and issuance of title deeds had restored the dignity of coastal residents.
The ODM MP said members of the Duruma, Digo, pastoralists and Kamba communities are holding over 26,000 title deeds in Lunga Lunga alone, with over 50,000 title deeds cumulatively in Kwale county. She prayed for divine protection for Ruto, asking God to shield him from harm and what she described as the evil eye of his adversaries.
Mboko said the Coast's vote was "locked and sealed" for Ruto because of his development record in the region. She cited projects including the Shimoni Port in Kwale and the Dongo Kundu Port as examples of Ruto's commitment to the region. Mboko urged Ruto not to campaign in the Coast, saying the region is firmly behind him.
Ruto is currently on an eight-day development tour of the six coastal counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu and Taita Taveta. On Monday, he presided over the groundbreaking of the Maungu-Kasighau Road in Voi and inspected a market in Maungu, both in Taita Taveta County. The tour is aimed at assessing the region's development needs and launching projects.
Mboko's sentiments come as Ruto faces opposition competition ahead of the 2027 General Election. Opposition leaders are pushing for a united front and a single candidate to challenge him at the polls. However, Mboko expressed confidence that Ruto's development record will guarantee him a win in the Coast region.
