The historic Chinatown area in Mauritius is set to come alive with the 19th edition of the Chinatown Food & Cultural Festival (CFCF) on September 26-27. Organized by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the festival will feature a range of activities, including traditional Chinese music, dance, and martial arts performances. The event aims to promote Chinese culture and provide an opportunity for the public to experience the rich heritage of the Chinese community in Mauritius.

The festival will take place on Rue La Reine and surrounding areas in Port Louis, with various food stalls offering traditional Chinese cuisine and street food. Visitors will also be able to explore the historic shops and restaurants in the area, including a traditional Chinese pharmacy. The event is expected to attract a large crowd from diverse backgrounds, showcasing the cultural diversity of Mauritius.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the festival, was founded on December 8, 1908, and is the second-oldest Chinese chamber of commerce abroad, after the one established in Singapore in 1906. The chamber's primary objective was to defend the interests of Chinese traders, assist new arrivals, and provide support to community members in need.

The CFCF has been held annually since 2005 and has become a popular event in Mauritius. This year, the festival will feature a range of activities, including calligraphy and painting demonstrations, martial arts performances, and traditional Chinese crafts. A QR code will also be available for visitors to scan, adding an interactive dimension to the event.

The Groupe ABC has renewed its support as the main sponsor of the festival for the 13th consecutive year. According to Donald Ah-Chuen, Group Director of ABC Group, the festival is an opportunity to share and promote Chinese traditions with the wider public, while strengthening ties between different segments of Mauritian society.

During the festival, several subsidiaries of the Groupe ABC will be represented at the ABC pavilion, showcasing their products and services through various animations and experiences. The pavilion will also feature the presence of athlete Noemi Alphonse, a double world champion in the 100m T54 event, who is supported by the Groupe ABC.

The festival will take place on September 26 from 3:30 pm to 10 pm and on September 27 from 12 pm to 10 pm. The event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Chinese culture, with something for everyone to enjoy.
