President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, has called for collective and solidarity action from island nations in addressing the urgent issue of climate change. This appeal was made during the Pre-COP meeting, a gathering of world leaders to discuss and accelerate climate action. The President emphasized the need for unity among island nations to tackle the challenges posed by climate change.

The Pre-COP meeting, which took place in Fiji, brought together leaders from various countries to discuss climate change and its impacts. The meeting aimed to accelerate climate action and push for more ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Fiji's Prime Minister urged world leaders to ensure that climate negotiations translate into concrete actions.

In addition to climate change, Mauritius is also taking steps to address other pressing issues. The country will be conducting an epidemiological study with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to investigate the link between pesticides and cancer. This study aims to provide valuable insights into the impact of pesticides on human health.

Mauritius has also signed an agreement with NASA to enhance its space research capabilities. The agreement, signed by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) and NASA, aims to promote cooperation in space research and exploration. This partnership is expected to open up new opportunities for Mauritian researchers and scientists.

On a different note, several dozen thousand people took to the streets in Spain to protest for the right to housing. The protests, which took place in various cities across Spain, were sparked by concerns over housing affordability and the impact of new laws on tenants. The protesters called for greater protection for renters and more affordable housing options.

In Mauritius, the country is also marking important milestones in education and child welfare. The country celebrated World Teachers' Day, with teachers expressing concerns over discipline, safety, and working conditions. The Ombudsperson for Children also released a report highlighting the challenges faced by children with autism and other special needs.

Finally, Mauritius is set to upgrade its technical center, St Gabriel, to a vocational high school. The center, which will become the Lycée professionnel St Gabriel-Don Bosco, will offer students the opportunity to pursue higher education and gain technical skills. This development is part of the country's efforts to improve education and training opportunities for its youth.
