A 27-year-old French woman, arrested in March 2026 for importing 10 kilos of cannabis and 6 kilos of haschich worth over Rs 50 million, has made allegations that she was released from her cell at the Sodnac police station for several hours to have sex with a policeman. The woman, who is currently detained at the Beau-Bassin prison, claims she was allowed to leave her cell between 3 am and 6 am on July 13, 2026, to meet the policeman in a restricted area of the police station.

According to the woman, the encounter with the policeman was consensual. However, the incident has raised concerns among authorities, with several potential offenses being examined, including conspiracy, interfering with a witness, abuse of position, and forgery. An investigation has been launched by the Central Police Station (Casernes centrales) after the allegations were made, and a team from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) has been tasked with verifying the facts.

The police officer at the center of the allegations has been identified and is expected to be questioned soon. A Woman Police Constable (WPC) who was on duty at the time of the alleged incident has already been interviewed by the MCIT. She claimed she noticed nothing unusual during her shift and was unaware of any relationship between her colleague and the detainee.

The investigation is focusing on reconstructing the events of the night in question, with a particular emphasis on analyzing footage from surveillance cameras at the police station. The authorities are seeking to establish how the detainee was able to leave her cell, who was responsible for her supervision at the time, and whether proper procedures were followed.

The French woman was arrested on March 24, 2026, after a 24-hour manhunt. She had abandoned her luggage, which contained the narcotics, at the airport and fled with a different suitcase. The Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) and the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) tracked her down to Grand-Baie, where she was apprehended along with a constable, Neeraj Pagoo, who is believed to be her accomplice.

The Central Police Station has confirmed that an investigation is underway, with several lines of inquiry being pursued to establish the facts. The authorities are conducting interviews and analyzing evidence, and it is unclear at this stage what charges, if any, may be brought in connection with the allegations.
