A 13-month-old girl, Levana Azelie Blessing Casimir, died at her home in Roche-Bois, Mauritius, on Sunday. According to her mother, Gabriella Deborah Casimir, the child had been unwell for several days with a throat infection and episodes of vomiting. The mother claims she took the child to a dispensary and then to a hospital, where she received serum and an injection.

The mother stated that despite her health issues, the child seemed to have recovered on Saturday, playing with other children in the house before going to sleep. However, on Sunday, the child's vomiting resumed, and she showed signs of abdominal pain. The child's boyfriend, Jean Yvan Adelaide, a 27-year-old mason, performed an abdominal massage on the child before she died.

The SAMU services were alerted, and they arrived at the family's home at 9:40 pm. The doctor who examined the child declared her dead and referred the case to the Police Medical Officer. The body was taken to the morgue of Dr Jeetoo hospital. An autopsy was performed on Monday by Dr Sudesh Gungadin, which attributed the death to a "lacération of the intestine".

The police have opened an investigation and suspect a criminal act. They arrested Jean Yvan Adelaide on Monday, who claimed to have performed the abdominal massage. He has been detained and appeared in court on charges of involuntary homicide through imprudence. The mother, Gabriella Deborah Casimir, defends her boyfriend, stating that he has never harmed the children and has been living with the family for several months.

The investigation aims to determine what happened at the family's home and establish the exact circumstances of the fatal injury. The child's mother insists that her boyfriend did not harm the child, saying "Li pa finn fer mo zanfan nanye". The police are working to gather more information and evidence.

The case has raised concerns about child safety and the circumstances surrounding the child's death. The authorities are working to establish the facts and bring the perpetrator to justice. The child's family is trying to come to terms with the loss of their young daughter.

The boyfriend, Jean Yvan Adelaide, is currently in detention, and his case will be heard in court. The investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released as it becomes available. The community is shocked by the tragic event, and many are calling for justice for the young child.
