Kritesh Chummah, a 23-year-old Mauritian, has successfully merged his two passions - law and finance - into a single career. Initially, he developed a strong interest in accounting, economics, mathematics, and finance, while also being drawn to law and its role in delivering justice. Chummah's academic journey began at the secondary level, where he excelled in all subjects, earning distinctions in his School Certificate. He then pursued the Higher School Certificate in the economic stream, ranking among the top students.
Chummah's ambition to study abroad was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which led him to explore alternative paths. He secured a scholarship to pursue an LLB (Hons) in English and Mauritian Law at the University of Central Lancashire. Simultaneously, he undertook part-time studies for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification. This demanding course required him to balance two distinct fields of study, with law enhancing his analytical and argumentation skills, and accounting and finance providing a solid understanding of financial information and commercial realities.
After completing three years of university studies, Chummah obtained his LLB with First Class Honours and successfully completed ACCA Level 2. He then pursued a Bar Practice Course at the University of Manchester, which he completed in just nine months with a High Distinction in Criminal Litigation, Evidence and Sentencing. Additionally, he earned a BSc (Hons) Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. In July 2025, Chummah was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales.
Upon his return to Mauritius, Chummah completed a pupillage, working with several law firms and gaining practical experience. He was subsequently admitted to the Mauritian Bar at the age of 23, making him one of the youngest in his cohort. Currently, he is pursuing ACCA Level 3 with a specialization in Advanced Taxation. This combination of law and finance has become a significant part of his professional identity, as these disciplines frequently intersect in practice.
