The governor of Mauritania's Sikasso region, Marie Claire Dembélé Kanté, recently visited the Sikasso urban commune's town hall to oversee the annual electoral list revision process. This process, which runs from October 1 to December 31, aims to update the electoral lists by registering new voters, transferring those who have changed polling stations or residences, validating and deleting deceased voters' names.
The electoral list revision is conducted in two phases. The first phase, from October 1 to 31, focuses on registrations, transfers, validations, and deletions. The second phase, from November 1 to December 31, deals with complaints and their resolution. Governor Kanté was accompanied by her administrative and legal advisor, Amadou Soumaré, Sikasso's prefect, Amadou Gassambé, and the first deputy mayor of Sikasso urban commune, Abdramane Sidibé.
According to Governor Kanté, the revision process ensures the regular updating of electoral lists, enabling citizens who have reached the required age to register, taking into account those who have changed residences or polling stations, and removing deceased individuals. She expressed satisfaction with the process's start and emphasized the need to raise awareness among the population to facilitate timely completion of procedures.
The governor also commended the enthusiasm observed at the beginning of the operation. Souleymane Sanogo, president of the administrative commission for the revision of electoral lists, stated that they have received and classified documents for the different localities. He urged citizens not to wait until the last days to initiate their procedures, as those who miss the October 31 deadline will have to wait for the complaint phase.
The revision of annual electoral lists is a crucial step in updating the electoral file. Administrative authorities invite citizens to approach the commissions within the deadlines to regularize their situation. The process allows for the inclusion of new voters, transfer of voters who have changed their polling station or residence, and deletion of deceased voters.
The Sikasso urban commune's revision process is being carried out in 15 neighborhoods and 28 villages. The administrative commission is working to classify received documents according to these areas to facilitate their tasks. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the process to ensure their eligibility to vote.
The annual electoral list revision in Mauritania's Sikasso region will conclude on December 31. Authorities are urging citizens to take part in the process to update the electoral lists and ensure their participation in future elections.
