Mauritania's Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mohamedou Ould Mhaimid, participated in a high-level ministerial session on development financing in Madrid, Spain, on Wednesday. The session was part of the second day of forums dedicated to the "Dialogue on Financing Sustainable Development Goals: Strengthening National Approaches." The discussions focused on adapting financing mechanisms to national priorities, translating development goals and climate commitments into concrete reforms.

The meeting examined ways to improve complementarity between public financing, private investments, and international resources under the Seville Action Platform. Minister Ould Mhaimid emphasized that the challenge of development financing is not just about mobilizing more resources, but also about coordinating and optimizing their use to support economic transformation and improve living conditions.

The Minister highlighted several Mauritanian priorities for the Seville Action Platform, including strengthening national capacities for financial planning, project preparation, and public investment management. He also emphasized the need to facilitate access to concessional financing and climate resources for high-impact projects and improve coordination between international financial institutions, development banks, and the private sector.

Minister Ould Mhaimid called for increased mobilization of concessional climate financing and the development of public-private partnerships to stimulate national and foreign investments, create value-added, and promote youth employment. He noted that Mauritania's action prioritizes the effectiveness of social spending, human capital development, and financial inclusion.

The forums, co-organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Spanish government, bring together ministers, international officials, representatives of financial institutions, and development partners. The events aim to foster dialogue and cooperation on development financing and sustainable development goals.
