Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has pledged to intensify efforts to improve basic services and develop infrastructure in Nouakchott, the country's capital. During a meeting with officials and elders of Nouakchott's southern province on Thursday, the President outlined his vision for the city's development. He emphasized that the government will focus on providing clean water, improving healthcare services, and upgrading roads and educational institutions.

President El Ghazouani noted that the government aims to alleviate the suffering of residents who face difficulties accessing clean water, and to expand healthcare facilities to make them more accessible to citizens. The President also highlighted plans to improve and expand roads, including those in areas outside the city. Additionally, he emphasized the need to enhance the urban landscape and aesthetic appeal of the capital.

The President's plans also include strengthening hospitals with specialized medical staff, improving study conditions, and upgrading educational institutions. He stressed that providing services to citizens, regardless of their location, remains a top priority. However, he acknowledged that meeting all residents' demands simultaneously is subject to available resources and constraints.

President El Ghazouani emphasized that Nouakchott, as the country's capital and face to the world, deserves special attention and that its residents should have access to a greater share of services and infrastructure commensurate with its status. He launched the second phase of the Nouakchott Development Emergency Program on Thursday, with a budget of 115 billion ouguiya, bringing the total cost of the program to 184 billion ouguiya.

The second phase of the program includes projects to establish healthcare and educational facilities, expand water, electricity, and lighting networks, build roads and sports infrastructure, and rehabilitate public spaces. This follows the implementation of projects under the first phase in several service and development sectors. The program aims to address the needs of Nouakchott's residents and improve the overall quality of life in the capital.

The President's commitment to improving services and infrastructure in Nouakchott reflects the government's efforts to address the needs of its citizens and promote development in the region.
