The Malian Minister of Youth and Sports, Abdoul Kassim Ibrahim Fomba, launched the African Youth Day celebrations in Dioïla, Mali, on November 3, 2026. The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Governor of Dioïla Region, General Kèba Sangaré, and the President of the Malian National Youth Council, Sory Ibrahim Cissé.
The African Youth Day was established by the African Union as a platform for mobilization, reflection, and exchange on the challenges facing the continent. The day aims to strengthen the participation of young people in development and enable them to assume their role as agents of change. The event was attended by delegations of young people from different regions of Mali and the Bamako district, as well as representatives of defense and security forces.
In his welcome speech, the Mayor of Kaladougou Rural Commune, Yacouba Dowélé Marico, invited young people to play their role as drivers of positive change. He then elevated the Minister and some members of his delegation to the rank of honorary citizens of Dioïla, in accordance with a communal council deliberation. This gesture was a recognition of the Minister's efforts to promote youth development in the region.
The President of the Malian National Youth Council, Sory Ibrahim Cissé, paid tribute to African youth and reaffirmed the availability of Malian young people to accompany development actions. He stressed that the theme of this edition constitutes a call to responsibility and collective action. Cissé encouraged young people to innovate, train, and transform difficulties into opportunities for the continent.
Sory Ibrahim Cissé also invited young people to promote peace, social cohesion, solidarity, unity, and love for their country. He saluted the support of the Transitional President, General Assimi Goïta, through the department in charge of Youth. On behalf of Malian youth, Cissé made three commitments: to reject division, manipulation, and hatred, to refuse any form of violence, and to remain an indispensable force in implementing the "Mali Kura ɲɛtaasira ka bɛn san 2063 ma" vision.
The Governor of Dioïla, General Kèba Sangaré, welcomed the theme of the celebration, which he considered mobilizing. He stressed that it invites African youth to awareness, critical analysis of current challenges, and strategic repositioning to contribute to the continent's sovereignty. Sangaré encouraged young people to cultivate excellence in all areas of socio-economic life and advocated for the realization of sports infrastructure in Banico.
