The Mauritanian Ministry of Social Work, Childhood and Family has initiated a campaign to distribute clean cooking equipment to 1,202 vulnerable families in the country. The campaign was launched on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in Nouakchott, under the project "Innovations and Francophone Advocacy for the Dissemination and Promotion of Clean Cooking Techniques in Mauritania." The project aims to provide clean cooking equipment, promote vocational training, and support women's productive initiatives.

The campaign was launched by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Hamoudi Sheikhna Ali, at the Women's Empowerment Training Center in Touguenine, Nouakchott North. The event was attended by several officials, national and international partners. The project targets vulnerable families, small food projects, and graduates of the Women's Empowerment Training Center in the three Nouakchott regions, as well as in Lassabah and Tiris Zemmour.

The project goes beyond providing clean and safe cooking equipment, aiming to open new economic and professional opportunities for women and girls through training, qualification, and encouragement of small initiatives related to the production and marketing of clean cooking equipment. The project includes training 30 craftsmen in the manufacture of this equipment and 20 women in the creation and management of small enterprises.

The Secretary General of the Ministry emphasized that the project aims to improve the living conditions of families and promote employment and income opportunities. The project also involves the production of 1,202 units of clean cooking equipment of different sizes. The distribution of this equipment will contribute to reducing the reliance on traditional cooking methods, which often have negative impacts on health and the environment.

The Director of the Women's Empowerment Training Center, Aside Mint El Jerib, highlighted that the implementation of the project involved organizing the opening workshop, conducting field missions to identify beneficiaries, and preparing the technical specifications of the equipment. She also emphasized the importance of linking training to employment and production opportunities.

The Coordinator of the Innovations project, Yves Nassouri, considered that the clean cooking equipment represents an important step in improving the daily conditions of beneficiaries and promoting the dissemination of clean cooking techniques in Mauritania. He praised the efforts of the national partners in implementing this project, which is in line with the country's efforts to promote sustainable development.

The launch of this initiative is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Social Work, Childhood and Family to promote the economic empowerment of women, support vulnerable families, and expand training and production opportunities, taking into account environmental and developmental dimensions. The campaign was marked by the inspection of the equipment and machinery allocated for cooking and the official launch of the campaign.
