In Nouakchott, Mauritania, a workshop was recently held to present and deliver a report on the feasibility study of sustainable aviation fuel. The event was inaugurated by Ameeziiza Karbali, Secretary General of the Ministry of Equipment and Transport. Organized by the National Civil Aviation Agency, the workshop is part of a program to support and build capacities in sustainable aviation fuel, funded by the European Union and coordinated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The workshop aims to explore opportunities for developing sustainable aviation fuel in Mauritania and assess the necessary national, technical, economic, and environmental requirements. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency, this initiative is part of its efforts to keep pace with environmental and technological changes in the civil aviation sector. The agency's goal is to evaluate national potential and requirements for sustainable aviation fuel, aligning with international efforts to reduce carbon emissions in aviation.

Ameeziiza Bent Karbali, Secretary General of the Ministry of Equipment and Transport, emphasized that developing sustainable aviation fuel is a strategic direction to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from aviation and align with the sector's environmental transformation. She highlighted the study's importance as a fundamental step in evaluating national potential and exploring opportunities for economic diversification and enhancing civil aviation's contribution to development.

The workshop featured speeches from various officials, including the Deputy Director General of the National Civil Aviation Agency, Amboudj Andoudori Aliou, and the European Union's ambassador to Mauritania, Joaquin Tasso Villalonga. Additionally, two video presentations were delivered by Tetsuya Tanaka, Director of Environment and Renewable Energies at ICAO, and Romuald Ekoutou, Director of the Organization's Central and West Africa Regional Office.

The collaboration between the National Civil Aviation Agency, ICAO, and the European Union enabled the completion of the feasibility study, which provides a technical basis for evaluating opportunities for sustainable aviation fuel development in Mauritania. The study identifies possible pathways and necessary requirements for a gradual transition to sustainable aviation fuel, aligning with international efforts to reduce carbon emissions in aviation.

The National Civil Aviation Agency stated that this initiative reflects its pivotal role in supporting sector development and enhancing sustainability through coordination with national institutions and technical partners. The agency aims to leverage international expertise to identify solutions that align with national priorities and economic and technical capabilities.

The workshop's outcomes are expected to contribute to Mauritania's efforts to modernize its transport sector and enhance its competitiveness. The country's vision, as outlined by President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani and the government's programs, aims to update the transport sector and promote sustainable development.
