Mauritania's Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), hosted an international colloquium on the promotion and protection of investment in Nouakchott on October 27, 2026. The event brought together experts and specialists from Mauritania, Germany, Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia to discuss ways to strengthen dialogue and share experiences between legal, judicial, and economic actors.
The colloquium aims to examine ways to develop the investment environment in Africa, particularly through the necessary legal and regulatory frameworks to establish a safe and attractive business climate. Mauritanian Minister of Justice, Mohamed Ould Soueidatt, emphasized the importance of cooperation and experience-sharing in developing the legal and judicial system, and highlighted the country's efforts to reform the justice sector.
Minister Ould Soueidatt also recalled that the reform of the justice sector is a national priority aimed at consolidating the rule of law and strengthening the foundations of development, in line with the vision of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. He noted that the national dialogue on the justice sector was an important step in this process, allowing for broad consultation with economic actors and different components of the judicial system.
Anette Kramme, German Parliamentary State Secretary for Justice and Consumer Protection and President of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation, highlighted the importance of the colloquium in strengthening legal and institutional cooperation. She praised the quality of coordination between her institution and the Mauritanian Ministry of Justice.

Mohamed Mountasser Abidi, head of the Africa department at the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation, outlined the two main axes of the colloquium's discussions.
The discussions focused on the legal frameworks that promote investment and ensure its protection, as well as the role of modernizing the judicial system in strengthening investor confidence and attracting specialized investments.
