Detectives are investigating an incident in which a 40-year-old caretaker of a private residence in Casuarina Village, Malindi, Kilifi County, died after he was allegedly assaulted by unknown attackers. The incident occurred at about 1:30 am on October 5, 2026, at a residence belonging to an Italian couple currently abroad, police said. The deceased, Fikiri Zimba Ngwaro, was reportedly alone at the property during the incident.

The residence is protected by a nine-foot perimeter wall topped with broken glass, a metal gate, and a Sentry Security Company alarm system. Ngwaro was reported to have sustained a deep cut to the head and an injury to his left knee. A neighbour reportedly heard screams during the night and attempted to call Ngwaro on his phone, but he did not answer.

At about 6 am, the neighbour went to the residence and found Ngwaro seriously injured. She returned to her house and activated her Sentry security alarm, prompting security guards to respond. The guards rushed Ngwaro to Malindi Sub-County Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. He was later referred to Kilifi Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival while being transferred.

Police said the kitchen at the residence was reportedly ransacked. Two solar batteries and an inverter of unknown make and value were also reported missing, raising the possibility that the incident may have been linked to a burglary. Investigations into the incident and the circumstances surrounding Ngwaro’s death are ongoing.

In a separate incident, police in Naromoru, Nyeri County, are investigating the recovery of a decomposed body and an unidentified human skeleton at Rware Farm. The discoveries were reported on October 5, 2026, after an employee of the farm alerted police to the remains. According to police, the first body was that of a man who was reportedly living with mental health difficulties and had lived within Rware Farm for about 20 years.

The man was reportedly well known within Naromoru Township and had no known relatives. Officers from Naromoru Police Station, accompanied by the Kieni East Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer and Crime Scene Investigation personnel, visited the scene. The body was found partially decomposed and had no visible physical injuries, according to police.

Officers are continuing efforts to trace the deceased’s family. In a separate discovery at the farm, about one kilometre from a petrol station, officers recovered a decomposed human skeleton found inside a sack. The identity and circumstances surrounding the death remain unknown. The skeleton was collected and secured pending DNA sampling and further forensic examination.
