On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Mali's Transitional President, General Assimi Goïta, received the 2021 and 2024 annual reports of the Central Office for the Fight Against Illicit Enrichment (OCLEI). The reports were submitted by OCLEI President Modibo Sacko at the Palace of Koulouba in Bamako. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga and several high-ranking officials. The OCLEI presented its results and challenges in preventing and combating illicit enrichment.

According to the reports, in 2021, the OCLEI sensitized over 1,400 stakeholders, reviewed 968 asset declarations, and forwarded 12 cases to the judiciary. In 2024, the office conducted 21 prevention activities, engaging 2,025 participants, including 761 women. It examined 48 cases and referred 13 to the justice system. Despite these achievements, OCLEI President Modibo Sacko highlighted several obstacles, including the limited implementation of recommendations, difficulties in accessing land information, and inadequate office space.

President Assimi Goïta commended the OCLEI's efforts, emphasizing that the reports are essential tools for evaluating public action and good governance. He reaffirmed the authorities' commitment to fighting corruption, embezzlement of public funds, and impunity. The President stressed the need to accelerate the digitalization of procedures, modernize control tools, and establish a reliable national system for measuring illicit enrichment.

The President also underscored the importance of better coordination in the land sector, which is particularly vulnerable to illicit practices. He noted the OCLEI's needs in terms of human resources, equipment, and infrastructure. To enhance the effectiveness of the fight against illicit enrichment, Goïta called for increased mobilization of institutions and citizens.

President Goïta launched an appeal for a "patriotic surge" to preserve state assets, strengthen citizen trust, and prioritize good governance. He emphasized that building a sovereign and stable Mali relies on integrity, transparency, and accountability in managing public resources. The President's call aims to rally Malians around the fight against illicit enrichment.

The OCLEI's efforts are crucial in the context of Mali's ongoing transition. The country has faced significant challenges, including insecurity, corruption, and economic difficulties. The President's commitment to good governance and accountability is seen as a key step towards addressing these issues.

The reception of the OCLEI reports and the President's call for action mark a significant development in Mali's fight against illicit enrichment. The government's response to these challenges will be closely watched by citizens, international partners, and observers.
