The Malian military has reported significant gains in its ongoing security operations across the country. According to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (DIRPA), the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have neutralized over 4,880 combatants from armed groups, destroyed 162 bases, 315 pick-up vehicles, and 1,300 motorcycles between May and October 20, 2026. This update was provided during a press briefing held on October 23, 2026.
The DIRPA highlighted the consolidation of the military presence in Kidal as a notable achievement during this period. The operation "Dougoukoloko," launched on October 6, 2026, has enabled the FAMa to reinforce their positions in the city and its surroundings. This operation is part of a broader campaign aimed at consolidating support points, delivering necessary resources to units, and preventing armed groups from reorganizing. The military has also maintained its positions in Anéfis, which serves as a key point for further operations.
In the Kidal region, security and mopping-up operations continue in several areas, including Talhandak, Tessalit, Inafarak, and Ménaka. The military's objective is to secure these zones and provide basic social services, facilitating the gradual return of displaced populations. The DIRPA reported that the military has conducted 1,887 surveillance and monitoring missions, as well as 791 airstrikes across all theaters of operation between May and September 2026.
The military's aerial operations have continued to intensify, with an additional 65 airstrikes recorded between October 1 and 20, 2026. In the central region, operations have combined airstrikes, offensive reconnaissance, and ground patrols. Specifically, 16 airstrikes were conducted in three separate actions in the sectors of Sofara, northeast of San, and N'Daki, resulting in over 200 enemy combatants being neutralized and 10 vehicles and 95 motorcycles destroyed.
The military has also conducted escort and assistance missions for local populations, notably in Saye and for the benefit of the fundamental school in Mondoro. In the southern region, the military effort has focused on securing road axes and protecting supplies. For instance, 2,556 tanker trucks were escorted on September 13, 20, and 27 along the Kadiana-Bamako axis. Additionally, the FAMa reported ensuring the safe passage of 656 vehicles in Bafoulabé.
The DIRPA also highlighted the reinforcement of military personnel, with the School of Non-Commissioned Officers in Banankoro training 548 new non-commissioned officers. Furthermore, nearly 2,700 new recruits have joined the army after completing basic training, and 2,400 young people, including 800 women, have completed six months of military and civic training as part of the seventh cohort of the National Youth Service.
The Malian military's operations demonstrate a sustained effort to improve security across the country. The DIRPA's regular briefings aim to keep the public informed about the evolving security situation and the military's response. The situation on the ground remains fluid, with ongoing operations aimed at stabilizing the regions and preventing the resurgence of armed groups.
