In Wonkifong, Guinea, the NGO Maison du Leadership et d'Accompagnement des Femmes et Filles de Guinée (MALAFF) recently organized an awareness session to address the challenges faced by girls in accessing education. The session, which brought together over 70 women, mainly mothers, aimed to challenge social norms and stereotypes that hinder girls' education. MALAFF's initiative seeks to promote girls' education and encourage families to support their daughters' schooling.

The awareness session focused on the importance of educating girls and the negative impact of early marriage and domestic responsibilities on their education. Participants were encouraged to question certain social practices that prioritize marriage over education for girls. Ramatoulaye Asmaou Diallo, coordinator of the project "Autonomisation des filles pour une éducation inclusive et durable," explained that the objective was to launch the project's activities and raise awareness about the importance of girls' education.

According to MALAFF, one of the significant obstacles to girls' education is the domestic responsibilities imposed on them, which leave them with little time to study and prepare for their classes. The organization seeks to address this issue by engaging with families and encouraging them to support their daughters' education. Diallo emphasized that girls who attend school can become leaders and make a positive impact in their communities.

The awareness session seemed to have a positive impact on the participants, with some mothers expressing their commitment to supporting their daughters' education. Dialikatou Diallo, a participant, said that she regretted not having the opportunity to pursue her education and wants her daughters to have the chance to succeed. Oumou Thiam, another participant, vowed to support her daughters' education and ensure they complete their studies.

The local authorities have welcomed MALAFF's initiative, with Bangoura Asseydou, secretary administrative du district de Wonkifon, expressing his appreciation for the organization's efforts to promote girls' education. Asseydou emphasized the importance of education for girls and its impact on the development of the community.

MALAFF plans to continue its activities in Wonkifong, including accompanying 40 identified young girls in a local school and organizing sessions on menstrual health, dignity, and female leadership. The project, funded by Plan International Guinée, aims to address both the social norms and concrete conditions that hinder girls' education.

The ultimate goal of MALAFF's initiative is to transform the awareness and commitment of families and communities into sustainable support for girls' education. By challenging social norms and providing support to girls and families, MALAFF hopes to enable girls in Wonkifong to pursue their education and reach their full potential.
