Former President John Dramani Mahama has concluded his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Ahafo Region with a promise to ensure the region receives its fair share of national development. The tour, which aimed to bring governance closer to the grassroots, involved inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects and engaging with citizens and traditional authorities. Mahama expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of the region for their support in the 2024 General Election, where the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won five out of six parliamentary seats.

The Resetting Ghana Tour is part of Mahama's nationwide initiative to reconnect with the people and assess the needs of various regions. During his visit to the Ahafo Region, Mahama highlighted several key government interventions and policies, including the Big Push Infrastructure Development Programme, which focuses on road construction. He also mentioned economic recovery efforts, the Free Primary Healthcare Initiative, and preparations for Ghana's 70th Independence Anniversary Celebration. These initiatives aim to address the region's development needs and improve the quality of life for its residents.

Mahama emphasized the importance of agriculture in the region, outlining measures to boost production through poultry farming, the Farmer Service Centres initiative, and irrigation development projects. These initiatives are expected to increase food security and provide economic opportunities for local farmers. Additionally, Mahama directed that roads within all 16 regional capitals, including Goaso, be rehabilitated or constructed in preparation for the 70th Independence Anniversary Celebration. Work has already commenced on selected roads in Accra and will be extended to other regional capitals.

The former President also highlighted his administration's efforts to improve healthcare in Ghana. The Free Primary Healthcare Programme has been implemented to provide accessible healthcare services to all Ghanaians without financial barriers. Furthermore, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, has been established to support the treatment of chronic and high-cost medical conditions, including cancer and kidney diseases requiring dialysis. This initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on affected individuals and their families.

During his visit, Mahama engaged with the local community in Goaso, listening to their concerns and ideas. He encouraged the people to take ownership of the development process and work together with the government to achieve their goals. The Citizens’ Engagement in Goaso, where Mahama made these assurances, was a key event in his two-day tour. The event provided a platform for Mahama to outline his vision for the region and Ghana as a whole.

Mahama's tour of the Ahafo Region is part of his broader effort to reconnect with the Ghanaian people and understand their needs. The tour has provided valuable insights into the challenges facing the region and the opportunities for growth and development. As Mahama continues his Resetting Ghana Tour across the country, he is expected to engage with various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to ensure that the needs of all regions are addressed.

The Ahafo Region has expressed optimism about the prospects of improved development under Mahama's leadership. The region's support for the NDC in the 2024 General Election demonstrates its confidence in the party's ability to deliver on its promises. As Mahama continues to engage with the people of Ghana, his pledge to ensure the Ahafo Region receives its fair share of national development has been well-received by local residents.
