LG Electronics has introduced a new air-cooled centrifugal chiller designed for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The equipment has a capacity of 480 to 600 tons of refrigeration per unit and features proprietary LG technologies, including an oil-free magnetic bearing centrifugal compressor and an innovative natural refrigerant cooling system. This system enables the chiller to operate efficiently while minimizing energy consumption.

The new chiller is designed to ensure continuous operation in data centers, with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and rapid recovery system that can restore full cooling capacity within three minutes of power restoration. Additionally, the chiller incorporates machine learning capabilities to adapt to changing loads and optimize performance. This allows the chiller to operate effectively in a variety of conditions.

According to LG's internal simulations, the new cooling system can reduce annual energy consumption by approximately 29% compared to conventional water-side natural cooling systems. This significant reduction in energy consumption can help data center operators minimize their environmental impact and lower their operating costs. The chiller's efficient design also makes it an attractive option for data centers.

LG offers its Data Center Cooling Management (DCCM) software, which provides monitoring and control of cooling infrastructure, enables early anomaly detection, and facilitates predictive maintenance. This software helps data center operators to optimize their cooling systems and prevent downtime. By leveraging DCCM, operators can ensure reliable and efficient cooling.

LG's focus on in-house manufacturing of essential components, such as compressors, motors, and inverters, enables the company to optimize performance and simplify maintenance. This approach also allows LG to maintain quality control and ensure consistency across its product line. As a result, LG's chillers are designed to provide reliable and efficient cooling.

The performance of LG's chillers has been validated by several international certifications, including those from the Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Certification Board (AHRI). LG's air-cooled chillers have received the AHRI Performance Award for nine consecutive years. These certifications demonstrate LG's commitment to delivering high-quality products.

LG's expanded cooling solutions for AI data centers are designed to meet the growing demand for efficient and reliable cooling systems. With its new air-cooled centrifugal chiller and DCCM software, LG is well-positioned to support the development of AI data centers. The company's focus on innovation and quality has earned it a reputation as a leader in the cooling solutions market.
