Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has unveiled his new political party, The Equitable Party, in a move that has garnered support from several leaders. The launch, which took place in Nairobi, saw leaders from various political backgrounds express their support for Sifuna's presidential bid in the 2027 General Election. Sifuna, who is also the leader of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, has been named the preferred presidential candidate of The Equitable Party.
The event was attended by several leaders, including MP Jack Wamboka, who described Sifuna's political journey as one centered on Kenyans. Wamboka urged Sifuna to build the party into a national outfit, saying that his candidature was bigger than an individual. He also called for the party to have a national outlook, with representation from different communities.
Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga also backed Sifuna, thanking young Kenyans on social media for supporting the senator's political journey. Kalasinga called for the new party to have a national image and representation from different communities. He suggested that if there were 27 national parties, there should be 27 tribes representing the parties.
However, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale cautioned Sifuna that building a successful political movement would require him to work with other opposition leaders. Khalwale cited several leaders, including former Siaya Governor James Orengo and Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, whose support Sifuna would need. He urged Sifuna to persuade and seek the support of other leaders rather than attempting to force them into his political camp.
Digital strategist Pauline Njoroge offered a more direct endorsement, describing Sifuna as "a force of nature" and predicting that he would become Kenya's sixth President. Njoroge's comments were echoed by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who congratulated Sifuna on the launch, describing it as another milestone in Kenya's multiparty politics.
The Equitable Party's leader, Gilbert Marava, said that the party had decided to restructure its leadership and make room for Sifuna and his supporters. Marava's comments suggest that the party is committed to providing a platform for Sifuna's presidential bid. The launch of The Equitable Party marks a significant development in Kenya's political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The support from various leaders for Sifuna's new party is seen as a boost to his presidential bid. With the 2027 General Election just 309 days away, Sifuna will need to consolidate his support and build a strong coalition to challenge other candidates. The Equitable Party's launch marks a significant step in Sifuna's journey to the presidency.
