The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has completed a renovation project at Oke Owa United Anglican Primary School in Ikoto, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State. The project, undertaken through the church's Humanitarian Services programme, aims to improve learning conditions and provide basic facilities for pupils and teachers. The renovation includes classroom blocks, sanitation facilities, and a solar-powered borehole.
The renovation project was inaugurated on Monday by Elder Christian Chibundu, a member of the Africa West Area Presidency of the church. Chibundu stated that the intervention was driven by the importance of education and the need to provide children with a conducive learning environment. He emphasized that the project reflects the church's teachings on service, love, and assistance to people in need.
The facilities provided include 10 modern toilets, tables, and chairs for pupils and teachers. The solar-powered borehole was installed to improve access to clean water, while the toilets promote hygiene and sanitation within the school. According to Chibundu, the project was funded through contributions from individual members across the world.
The school's Head Teacher, Agatha Chibuzor Nwankwo, expressed gratitude to the church and other stakeholders involved in the project. She stated that the new facilities would support teaching and learning in the school and appealed to parents, community members, and teachers to protect and maintain the facilities.
The Baale of Ikoto, High Chief Abiodun Adekunle Odunsi, also commended the church for funding the project, noting that it would benefit pupils, teachers, parents, and the wider community. He announced the community's decision to honour the head teacher with the chieftaincy title, 'Yeye Gbeko-Niyi', citing her contribution to the development of the school.
Other stakeholders present at the commissioning included the Education Secretary, Odogbolu Local Government, Alhaji Saka Giwa; Vice President, Nigerian Union of Teachers, Abuja, Comrade Titilope Adenanjo; representatives of the Anglican Church; and members of the Ikoto community. The church said the intervention was part of its humanitarian activities aimed at supporting communities through projects in areas such as education, water, and sanitation.
