The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has recorded several emergency operations across Lagos between Friday and Sunday. According to a statement signed by LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency responded to multiple incidents, including road accidents, truck breakdowns, and a fire outbreak. LASEMA deployed emergency response teams, paramedics, and heavy-duty equipment to manage incidents and restore affected roadways.
On Friday, LASEMA responded to a distress call at 8:41 am concerning a containerized truck that had developed a mechanical fault and become immobile at Palm Avenue Bus Stop, inward Oye. The truck was obstructing vehicular movement, and LASEMA's Eagle Team managed traffic and diverted oncoming vehicles to prevent secondary incidents. The agency's Super Metro was deployed to recover the broken-down truck, which was subsequently moved to a nearby lay-by, restoring traffic flow.
Later that evening, LASEMA's Alpha Eagle Team responded to another containerized truck incident at Ojuwoye Bus Stop, inward Oshodi. The truck had suffered an electrical fault, and the team secured the scene and managed traffic while arrangements were made for its recovery. With the aid of the Super Metro, the truck was recovered and moved to a safe location, ensuring unhindered vehicular movement along the corridor.
On Saturday, LASEMA responded to a road traffic accident at Otedola, Mobil inward Berger, involving a Ford Escape SUV and a moving truck. The agency's Tiger Squad arrived at the scene and found that the SUV had rammed into the truck from behind, leaving the male driver and female passenger injured. LASEMA's paramedics provided immediate pre-hospital care before transporting the casualties to the Trauma Centre for further medical treatment.
LASEMA also recovered a containerized truck that became immobile due to a mechanical fault at Olorunshogo Bus Stop, inward Cappa, on Friday evening. The vehicle was recovered with the aid of the Super Metro and relocated to a lay-by. Another truck conveying interlocks broke down at Ojuwoye in the early hours of Sunday and was subsequently recovered.
On Sunday, LASEMA's Tiger Team responded to a fire outbreak at Bakare Street, Ojodu Berger. Three of eight shops stocked with foodstuffs and frozen foods were affected by the fire, which was allegedly caused by an electrical surge following power restoration. LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained the inferno, preventing it from spreading to other shops.
LASEMA also responded to an incident involving a 40ft loaded container at Shoprite, inward Governor's Road, which had detached from the turntable of a Sinotruk head and fallen with its flatbed, fully obstructing a lane. A multi-agency operation was deployed to secure the scene, transload the contents, and recover the affected truck head and flatbed. The roadway was subsequently cleared and reopened for vehicular movement.
