A medical team at Aswan's Nile Specialized Hospital successfully performed a delicate surgery to remove a large tumor from a patient's face that had extended to the base of the skull. The 3-hour procedure was the first of its kind in Aswan's healthcare facilities. The patient, a 35-year-old man, had been suffering from the tumor for five years.
The patient initially developed a tumor in his lower jaw and underwent surgery to remove it, along with a reconstructive procedure using a customized plate. However, the tumor reappeared two years ago and continued to grow, prompting a comprehensive medical evaluation to prepare for the surgical intervention.
The medical team conducted necessary tests and examinations to assess the tumor's nature and extent, and developed a precise treatment and surgical plan. After completing the medical preparations, the team was able to remove the tumor within three hours without complications during or after the surgery.
The patient did not require admission to the intensive care unit after the operation and was discharged from the hospital the next day in stable condition. Dr. Mohamed Neshay, head of the Upper Egypt sector and supervisor of the Aswan branch of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority, stated that the success of this surgery represents an important step in developing specialized medical services in the governorate.
The intervention comes within the efforts of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority to raise the readiness of its facilities and hospitals to deal with complex cases, providing the necessary capabilities and equipment to conduct specialized surgeries within the governorate. The success of the operation reflects the level of readiness and efficiency of the medical teams within the Authority's facilities in Aswan.
A multidisciplinary medical team from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesia performed the surgery, including Dr. Fatma Mohamed, consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Momen Mohamed, and Dr. Alaa Mohamed, both deputies in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and Dr. Israa Mahmoud, consultant in anesthesia, in addition to the nursing team at Nile Specialized Hospital.
This success comes within the efforts of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority to develop the healthcare system in Aswan, expand the provision of specialized medical services and delicate surgeries, and raise the efficiency of medical facilities and working teams. The Authority aims to enhance the ability of the health sector in the governorate to provide advanced medical services for complex cases.
