The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled two of its members, Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr. Azeez Yusuf, for alleged anti-party activities, disloyalty, and conduct deemed inimical to the discipline and integrity of the party. This decision was announced by the state chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, in a statement on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
According to the APC, Egunjobi and Yusuf contested the party's primary elections for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively, in the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process, but failed to secure the party's tickets. Instead of accepting the outcome of the party's internal process, they obtained tickets from another political party, which the APC described as a repudiation of the obligations of party membership and an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty.
The party dismissed their purported resignations from the APC as a "belated and face-saving attempt" to preempt disciplinary consequences. The APC stated that membership of the party cannot be treated as a convenient political garment to be worn during a primary and discarded immediately after an unsuccessful outcome. Members are expected to pursue their ambitions within the framework of the party's constitution and applicable electoral laws.
The Lagos APC said its members were free to aspire to elective offices but were expected to accept the outcome of internal contests or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law. The party invoked the relevant provisions of Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against Egunjobi and Yusuf.
The disciplinary action against Egunjobi and Yusuf is linked to the 2026 electoral framework, with the Independent National Electoral Commission emphasising compliance by political parties and political actors with the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission's regulations governing the electoral process. The party warned that neither individual had the authority to speak for, represent, negotiate on behalf of, or transact business with any person, organisation or institution in the name of the Lagos State APC or the APC.
The Lagos APC urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of the change in their status and refrain from dealing with either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the APC. The party remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules, adding that it would continue to take steps to preserve its discipline, cohesion and credibility ahead of the forthcoming elections.
