A unit has been established in the Office of the Premier to deal specifically with consequence management, and a hotline is available for the public to report fraud and corruption.
Khanyile defended the record of the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), saying that despite differing views about the coalition formed after the 2024 elections, there had been measurable progress. Crime has gone down, corruption has decreased, and engagement with citizens through imbizos and other programs has improved significantly. The provincial government is also prioritizing women's economic empowerment through programs providing financial support to women-owned businesses and skills development.
Khanyile's message to young women aspiring to leadership is to combine ambition with planning and hard work. She urged young women to understand both their strengths and weaknesses, warning that failing to do so could allow others to define their capabilities for them. As she settles into the job, Khanyile's immediate priority is to ensure that government systems remain functional and that the administration reports back to communities on progress.
Khanyile takes up the post at a time when surveys show public trust in government is declining, mainly due to corruption across government departments. She encouraged anyone to report issues of corruption, and the provincial government will take decisive steps to address them.
