The Kwara State government has achieved a remarkable 93.5% performance in the execution of its 2025 budget. This was disclosed by the state’s director of Budget, Alh Samsudeen Aregbe, during a citizens’ engagement meeting for the 2027 budget in Ilorin, the state capital. The meeting was part of a series of town hall sessions held across the state, providing a platform for citizens to contribute to the budget-making process.

The town hall meetings, which began on September 1, were held in Osi, Ekiti local government area, for Kwara southerners, and in Lafiagi, Edu local government area, for northerners. The meetings aimed to gather feedback from citizens on their priorities and concerns, which would inform the 2027 budget. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mary Arinde, emphasized the importance of citizen engagement in the budget-making process.

According to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the open budget process was part of his campaign promises to rebuild public confidence in government, restore infrastructure, improve public service delivery, and prioritize the welfare of Kwarans. The governor’s administration has continued to engage citizens and stakeholders across communities to hear directly from them and identify areas for improvement.

The governor highlighted his administration’s achievements in critical infrastructure and capital projects across the state. These include the construction and rehabilitation of township roads, Kwara Hotels, Innovation Hub, Civil Service Clinic, International Conference Centre, and several strategic road networks. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq assured that the 2027 budget offers another opportunity to consolidate the gains of his administration. He emphasized that his administration remains committed to building a state where no community is left behind and where development reaches every corner of Kwara. The governor’s urban renewal initiatives have transformed the landscape of Ilorin and other major towns.

The governor’s administration has prioritized citizen engagement and participation in the budget-making process. He noted that governance belongs to the people and that any fiscal plan must directly reflect the life experiences, priorities, and voices of citizens across the state. This approach has helped to ensure that the budget is a reflection of the needs and aspirations of the people.
