KPMG One Africa's Chief Executive Officer, Tola Adeyemi, has advised Nigerian businesses to prepare for multiple political and economic scenarios as the country approaches the 2027 General Elections. Adeyemi emphasized that businesses must remain agile and resilient in the face of political developments, global economic realignment, geopolitical tensions, and changing policy directions. These factors create both risks and opportunities for companies operating in Nigeria.

Speaking at the KPMG–Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) CEO Luncheon Series, Adeyemi highlighted the need for corporate leaders to consider multiple possible outcomes rather than relying on a single expected outcome. The presentation identified three broad scenarios for Nigeria following the 2027 elections: continuity if the incumbent retains power, policy recalibration if the opposition wins, and heightened uncertainty if an inconclusive election leads to a rerun.

According to Adeyemi, the ability of businesses to anticipate and respond to these possible outcomes will be critical to sustaining growth. He emphasized that businesses need to develop the capacity to anticipate emerging risks, absorb shocks, adapt their resources and priorities, and accelerate faster than competitors when new opportunities emerge. This approach will enable businesses to navigate the complexities of the upcoming elections.

The event also featured remarks from Consul-General of France in Lagos, Laurent Favier, who noted that the gathering has become a trusted space to share ideas that could shape the economy. Favier expressed hope for a free and fair election in Nigeria and urged businesses to transform global economic risks into regional market opportunities.

Jude Chiemeka, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), advised CEOs to adopt a transformational approach while leveraging technology as a major enabler. Chiemeka emphasized that businesses should consider scaling and noted that the capital market is a viable platform for raising funds. His remarks underscored the importance of strategic planning and innovation in navigating the current economic landscape.

Meanwhile, stakeholders at the 2026 #FixPolitics Africa Conference have called on Africans to reclaim political power from the political elite. The conference, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, urged citizens to demand electoral integrity, accountable leadership, and sustained participation in governance beyond election periods. The Executive Director of #FixPolitics Africa, Anthony Ubani, emphasized that elected officials exercise power in trust for citizens.

The #FixPolitics Africa Conference highlighted the need for sustained civic education and democratic monitoring. Stakeholders proposed a platform to continuously monitor democracy, scrutinizing government performance and compliance with democratic commitments between elections. This approach aims to bridge the gap between public expectations and political realities, ultimately strengthening democratic governance across the continent.
