Koryx Copper SA, a Luxembourg-domiciled copper development company, has announced the completion of its pre-feasibility study at the Haib copper project in southern Namibia. The company released positive infill drill results, which are a significant milestone in the project's development. The Haib copper project is a massive, disseminated porphyry copper, molybdenum, and gold deposit.
The drill programme, comprising 18 holes and 7,074m of infill and expansion drilling, was divided into four target areas. The programme included four drill sites in target area one, four sites in target area two, eight sites in target area three, and one in target area four. Koryx president and chief executive Heye Daun stated that the results demonstrate consistent wide intercepts across the Haib deposit, with some notably higher-grade zones near the surface.
The assay results showed that the Haib deposit has wide intercepts of copper, with some areas having higher-grade zones near the surface. According to Daun, the results are consistent with prior results and demonstrate the potential of the Haib deposit. The technical team is now focused on completing the geological modelling and estimation work required for the updated mineral resource estimate and pre-feasibility study.
The Haib copper project has a long history of exploration and project development by multiple operators. Over 160,000m of drilling has been conducted at the site since the 1970s, with significant exploration programmes led by companies including Falconbridge, Rio Tinto, Teck, and Koryx Copper. The project aims to demonstrate Haib as a future long-life, low-cost, low-risk open pit, sulphide milling, and flotation copper project with additional heap leach potential.
Koryx Copper SA is advancing its 100%-owned Haib Copper Project in Namibia while also building a portfolio of copper exploration licences in Zambia. The company's drill programme involved cutting all drill core in half, with half sent to ALS Laboratories Ltd in Johannesburg, South Africa, for analysis and ActLabs in Canada. The other half was quartered, with one quarter archived and stored on site for verification and reference purposes.
The pre-feasibility study and updated mineral resource estimate are expected to be published before the end of 2026. Daun stated that both programmes remain on track, and the company is working towards demonstrating Haib as a viable copper project. The project's development involves large-scale open pit mining and conventional sulphide milling and flotation to produce a copper and molybdenum concentrate.
Koryx Copper SA's completion of the pre-feasibility study and positive infill drill results mark a significant milestone in the development of the Haib copper project. The company's focus on geological modelling and estimation work will help determine the project's potential and pave the way for future development.
