Thirty-two grassroots football coaches from across Kono District have begun a four-day E-Coaching Course organised by the Technical Department of the Eastern Region Football Association (ERFA) in Koidu City. The training commenced on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with the aim of strengthening the coaching knowledge and technical skills of grassroots coaches in the district. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance football development in the region.
The course provides an entry-level pathway for coaches seeking to advance their professional qualifications. Upon completion, participants will be eligible to apply for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) D Diploma Coaching Course. This opportunity will enable coaches to improve their skills and contribute to the growth of football in Sierra Leone. The training is being facilitated by experienced coaches, ensuring participants receive high-quality instruction.
Addressing the participants, ERFA Technical Director Coach Fanday urged the coaches to remain disciplined, attentive and committed throughout the training. He emphasized the importance of the course in enhancing their coaching abilities. The Vice Chairman of the Kono District Football Association, together with members of the district executive, also encouraged participants to take the course seriously and apply the knowledge gained to their coaching activities.
The training sessions cover both theoretical and practical aspects of football coaching. Coach Fanday and Coach Mikael are facilitating the sessions, providing participants with a comprehensive learning experience. The course is designed to equip coaches with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively train and develop young footballers in the district.
This initiative forms part of broader efforts under the administration of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara to strengthen the technical capacity of coaches across the country, particularly at grassroots level. Following the Kono training, similar E-Coaching sessions are expected to be organised in Kenema and Kailahun districts as part of efforts to expand coaching development opportunities across the Eastern Region.
