Kogi state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has urged Christian leaders in the state to use their pulpits to promote unity, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence. He made the call during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kogi state branch, in Lokoja. The governor commended CAN for five decades of faith, worship, unity, and service to humanity. He emphasized that the greatness of a society is measured by its values, unity, and legacy.
Governor Ododo described the 50th anniversary of CAN as a celebration of God's faithfulness and a tribute to generations of Christian leaders who contributed to Kogi state's spiritual and social development. He noted that the strength of society depends on its people's ability to live together in peace despite their differences. The governor stressed that faith is most powerful when it serves as a bridge between people, promotes compassion, and inspires collective efforts towards the common good.
Reflecting on the anniversary theme, "The Glory of Worshipping Together in Faith," drawn from Acts 2:1, Governor Ododo urged religious leaders to continue praying for Nigeria and Kogi state. He noted that leadership requires divine wisdom, courage, and a commitment to the welfare of the people. The governor emphasized that the Church cannot remain indifferent to the economic and social realities confronting Nigerians.
Governor Ododo called on Christian leaders to encourage responsible participation in the electoral process and ensure that citizens make informed decisions based on the long-term interests of the country. He expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reform agenda and urged religious institutions to promote issue-based political engagement rather than manipulate the faith of worshippers for partisan purposes.
The CAN Kogi state Chairman, Special Apostle Pastor Dr Adebayo Emmanuel Olaniyan, described the Golden Jubilee as a celebration of 50 years of unity, togetherness, and worshipping God in one accord. He highlighted the ongoing construction of the Kogi State CAN Ecumenical Centre as one of the major legacy projects of the anniversary.
Pastor Olaniyan expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo for the state government's financial support to CAN, efforts to maintain peace and tackle crime, and ongoing developmental initiatives across Kogi state. The governor's support has enabled CAN to implement various projects and programs that promote unity and development in the state.
