Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira, Kofi Arko Nokoe, has commissioned the "Long Live Nkrumah's Freedom Arch" at Ayisakro, Axim Junction. The ceremony, which took place on September 21, was attended by the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, traditional authorities, government officials, and residents. This event was part of activities marking the 117th birthday anniversary of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
The monument, according to Mr. Arko Nokoe, is more than a physical structure. He described it as "a gateway into our history, a landmark of our identity and a public lesson for generations yet unborn." The MP emphasized the importance of preserving historical heritage and promoting tourism in the area. He highlighted that the project is part of his broader efforts to develop the region.
Mr. Arko Nokoe disclosed plans to renovate the room where Dr. Nkrumah stayed while teaching in Axim. Additionally, he aims to preserve the final resting place of Paa Grant at Hwenoapro and protect the historic Paa Grant building. These historical sites will be linked with Fort St Antonio and other attractions to create a heritage-tourism circuit. This circuit is expected to attract visitors, create jobs, and strengthen the local economy.
The MP also outlined plans to develop a fitting memorial and educational attraction in honor of philosopher Anton Wilhelm Amo. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the patriotism, courage, and achievements of Dr. Nkrumah, Paa Grant, and Anton Wilhelm Amo. By doing so, he hopes to encourage the younger generation to appreciate Ghana's rich history and cultural heritage.
