The Kenyan government has confirmed that the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, is on schedule to host this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations. The event, which will be co-hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties, is set to take place on October 20. A team led by Interior and National Administration PS Raymond Omollo and Immigration and Citizen Services PS Dr. Belio Kipsang toured the stadium to inspect the ongoing construction works.
According to PS Omollo, the preparations for the celebrations have entered a crucial phase, and he expressed confidence that the region will be ready to host the national event. The celebrations will feature activities centered on security, sports, finance, and economic development, with various programs lined up ahead of the main event. The event will provide an opportunity for the three counties to showcase their potential in sports, security, culture, and business.
The Kipchoge Keino stadium, which is currently 68% complete, is expected to attain substantial completion by October 14. This will give organizers adequate time to finalize preparations before the national celebrations. The Ministry of Sports, with support and supervision from the Ministry of Defence, is undertaking extensive rehabilitation and upgrading works at the stadium.
Road improvement works are ongoing within Eldoret City, Kapsabet, and Iten, alongside water connectivity and other infrastructure upgrades. These upgrades aim to ensure that the three counties are ready to receive thousands of visitors expected to attend the celebrations. The steering committee revealed that significant progress had been made in improving infrastructure and preparing venues in the three towns.
The governors, members of Parliament, senators, and members of the county assemblies from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo-Marakwet have been commended for their continued support in coordinating preparations. Residents of the three counties have also been urged to prepare to host the rest of the country and visiting dignitaries who will accompany President William Ruto during the celebrations.
The event provides an opportunity for the three counties to showcase their cultural heritage and economic potential.
