Ghanaian singer King Promise has revealed that his relationship with Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi is about far more than hit songs and musical collaborations. According to King Promise, their bond was built on genuine friendship long before success brought their names into the spotlight. The two musicians have known each other for over a decade, with King Promise recalling that they became friends around 2012.
King Promise made these comments in an interview with Lexis Bill on Joy FM’s Drive Time on Tuesday, October 27. He noted that he was still in school when they first met, while Mr Eazi was working on his mixtape "About to Blow", which came before his eventual breakthrough. King Promise emphasized that their connection was never primarily driven by the prospect of making songs together.
Interestingly, the pair did not collaborate frequently during the early years of their friendship. However, King Promise noted that when they eventually got into the studio together, their musical efforts tended to make an impact. He said, “We barely made songs till we made songs. And then whenever we made them, they went far.” This history reflects the importance of building relationships that can stand independently of professional interests.
King Promise prefers friendships in which people value one another beyond what they can offer each other in the music business. He pointed to his relationships with R2Bees and rapper Sarkodie as similar examples, explaining that he had known them for years before their musical collaborations. “I try to keep genuine friendships where it’s not because you need me and I need you,” he said.
Beyond their personal bond, King Promise credited Mr Eazi with influencing his outlook on life and business. He described Mr Eazi as someone who communicates honestly and does not leave people guessing about where he stands. King Promise said, “The influence he’s had on me is that he keeps it a thousand percent. He’s very real and straightforward, direct to the point.”
King Promise also recalled how watching Mr Eazi make progress in music helped shape his own ambitions at a time when he was still establishing himself as an artiste. He said seeing his friend succeed while they continued to exchange ideas in the studio was a source of encouragement. Their conversations have never been limited to music, with King Promise noting that Mr Eazi’s business instincts are evident in their discussions.
King Promise described Mr Eazi as a “forward thinker” who began his entrepreneurial journey before his music career. He explained that Mr Eazi initially worked as a promoter and booking artistes before venturing into music and eventually establishing a record label. Their friendship has survived the transition from aspiring talents to established names in the African music industry, with mutual respect, shared experiences and business conversations continuing to shape their relationship.
