King Mohammed VI of Morocco has expressed deep concern over the repeated attacks on Saudi Arabia, stating that any attack on the country is considered an attack on Morocco. In letters to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the monarch condemned the Houthi militias' targeting of civilian and economic facilities, vital infrastructure, and holy sites in Saudi Arabia.
The King emphasized that these attacks not only threaten Saudi Arabia but also affect Muslims worldwide, as they target the holiest places on Earth, Mecca and Medina. He described these actions as desperate and sinful attempts to undermine the security and stability of the region. The monarch stressed that these attacks represent a blatant violation of the principles of Islam, including peace, tolerance, and the protection of human life and religious sites.
King Mohammed VI held the Houthi militias and those supporting, financing, and arming them responsible for these attacks. He called for those responsible to be held accountable before God, history, and international law, and advocated for international sanctions. The monarch reaffirmed Morocco's position of standing alongside Saudi Arabia in confronting threats from terrorist and separatist militias and the regional forces supporting them.
The King emphasized that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council states, are inseparable from Morocco's security. He stated that Morocco considers standing with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states to be a defense of truth and legitimacy, while defending their vital interests is part of defending shared strategic interests.
The recent escalation in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia has raised regional concerns, with incidents reported in September, including the targeting of Mecca, Riyadh, and energy infrastructure. These developments have prompted wider regional coordination, with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye holding talks on military cooperation.
King Mohammed VI also referred to United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning the conflict in Yemen and Houthi attacks, stating that the continuation of these attacks constitutes a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN provisions. He cited Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, and Resolution 2722, adopted in 2024, which demand an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilian areas and infrastructure.
The Moroccan monarch's message places Morocco's position within a broader call for the protection of Saudi civilians, infrastructure, religious sites, and maritime security, while demanding accountability for those responsible for the attacks. This stance reflects the wider concern surrounding the security of the region and the importance of regional cooperation in addressing these threats.
