Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged leaders from the Mt Kenya region to respect elders and heed their call for unity, emphasizing that political differences should not divide communities with a shared history and common interests. Kindiki made these remarks at Gaciongo and Matiri Markets in Tharaka Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, where he inspected government development projects. Kindiki stated that he has accepted the mandate given to him by Mt Kenya elders to spearhead reconciliation and unity across the region. The call for unity comes after a gathering of over 30,000 elders from Mt Kenya communities, including Ameru, Embu, Mbeere, and Gikuyu, who met at Kirigiti Stadium. They declared Kindiki a unifying factor for the region and urged communities to maintain a common political voice ahead of the 2027 General Election. Kindiki's mandate is to unite the people, pursue development, and support President William Ruto.
Kindiki's immediate task is to translate the elders' mandate into action by promoting unity, development, and support for the government. He urged Mt Kenya leaders to respect divergent political views while avoiding divisions that could weaken the region ahead of the 2027 contest. Kindiki also called for an end to attempts to divide Mt Kenya along East-West lines, highlighting the region's shared historical, cultural, and economic ties. He linked the unity message to development, showcasing road and water projects being implemented in Tharaka Nithi. The Deputy President inspected works on the Mukothima-Gaciongo-Gatunga Road and addressed residents at a public sensitization event.
The Deputy President has also forgiven those who have insulted and disrespected him, calling on them to join the unity effort. He emphasized that his focus is on development, urging leaders to avoid personal attacks and instead work together to build the nation and communities. Kindiki inspected works at the ongoing construction of Kithaga-Matiri Road, reaffirming the government's commitment to expanding infrastructure in neglected areas.
