The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a 24-hour weather forecast covering Friday night through Saturday evening, September 27. The forecast indicates light to moderate rainfall across select counties and strong winds over the northern region. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
According to the forecast, light to moderate rains are expected across coastal and western Kenya counties, with thunderstorms possible in some areas. The counties expected to receive rainfall include Kakamega, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, Trans Nzoia, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, and Lamu. The department has also warned of strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties.
The Kenya Meteorological Department's forecast also indicates that Mandera will record the highest temperature in the country at 38°C, while Nyandarua will register the lowest minimum nationally at 10°C. The temperature ranges in various counties will vary, with Mombasa experiencing temperatures between 23°C and 29°C.
Along the Coast, Mombasa is set for showers overnight that will spread more widely by morning before easing into sunny intervals through the afternoon. Kwale, Kilifi, and Tana River are expected to follow a similar pattern, while Taita Taveta will remain partly cloudy overnight before seeing only light rains from morning into the afternoon.
Western Kenya, covering Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and Kisumu, faces partly cloudy skies with a possibility of light showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly overnight and into the afternoon. Neighbouring Nyanza counties, including Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira, are largely expected to stay dry with sunny intervals through the day.
Central Kenya counties such as Meru, Embu, Kitui, and Kirinyaga may see isolated light showers in the afternoon, while Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Machakos, and Makueni are forecast to remain dry with sunny intervals. The Rift Valley, spanning Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, and Bomet, is expected to be largely dry throughout.
Nairobi will experience partly cloudy conditions overnight, transitioning to cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning and a clearer afternoon, with temperatures between 15°C and 27°C. The previous day's rainfall totals showed Nakuru station topping the charts at approximately 30mm, followed by Busia Ministry of Water at around 12mm.
