The Kenyan government has launched a six-month live wildlife streaming programme, dubbed "Experience Wonder Live From Kenya," which aims to give audiences worldwide direct access to its national parks and conservation activities. The initiative, a joint project by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), began broadcasting on September 7, 2026, and features live sessions from various protected areas. The programme was officially highlighted by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano during a live viewing at Nairobi National Park.
The live streaming programme provides an alternative way of showcasing Kenya's wildlife while encouraging viewers to visit the country physically. Miano stated that virtual tourism does not replace the physical safari but creates curiosity, builds connection, and inspires people to experience Kenya for themselves. The launch coincided with World Rhino Day, with the live broadcast focusing on rhino conservation and efforts by KWS to protect the species in Nairobi National Park and other protected areas.
The programme features morning and afternoon live sessions alongside WildEarth's SafariLIVE broadcasts and is available through various platforms, including DStv, YouTube, Samsung TV Plus, and Roku. According to KWS, the content reaches more than 500,000 daily unique viewers across 16 global platforms. Over the six-month period, broadcasts will rotate across several KWS-managed protected areas, including Nairobi National Park, Amboseli, Tsavo East, Tsavo West, the Aberdares, Sibiloi, Meru, Ruma, and Mount Elgon.
The broadcasts will also highlight communities living around protected areas, tourism activities, and conservation initiatives, alongside wildlife footage. KWS Director General Prof. Erustus Kanga stated that the initiative would give international audiences a closer view of the day-to-day work involved in conservation. He emphasized that the broadcasts would help audiences understand the work required to protect wildlife while maintaining the welfare of animals as the priority.
KTB Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei said the wildlife broadcasts could also introduce viewers to destinations, communities, and tourism experiences beyond the animals featured on screen. The programme aims to promote Kenya's wildlife and conservation efforts online and provide a digital archive of live broadcasts, wildlife highlights, mini-documentaries, and tourism films.
From November, the programme will also introduce curriculum-linked virtual school safaris intended to connect Kenyan and international students with protected areas and conservation activities. This initiative is expected to enhance education and awareness about wildlife conservation among students. The programme has been well-received, with many stakeholders acknowledging its potential to promote conservation and tourism in Kenya.
