The Kids’ Educational Engagement Project (KEEP Liberia) has dedicated a fully equipped reading room at Barnesville Public High School in Monrovia. This development is part of KEEP Liberia's effort to strengthen literacy among children and young people across Liberia. The reading room was made possible through the support of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in the United States, a longstanding partner of KEEP Liberia.
The newly dedicated reading room is stocked with more than 2,000 books, providing students with a safe and conducive environment to read, learn, and research. The facility is expected to improve students' reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary development. It will also cultivate a lifelong love for reading among the students. The reading room is a significant milestone in KEEP Liberia's ongoing effort to promote literacy development.
In addition to supporting literacy efforts, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church donated five HP laptops to support KEEP Liberia's Digital Literacy Program. This donation will enhance access to technology and digital learning opportunities for students. The laptops will complement the reading room, providing students with a comprehensive learning experience.
KEEP Liberia's Executive Director, Brenda Brewer Moore, expressed gratitude to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for its commitment to education and literacy advancement in Liberia. She encouraged school administrators, teachers, and students to make full use of the facility and take collective responsibility for its upkeep and maintenance.
Representatives of the education sector, including the District Education Officer and the Principal of Barnesville Public High School, praised KEEP Liberia and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for their investment in education. They described the new reading room as a transformative development that opens new pathways for learning and academic achievement.
The Barnesville dedication adds to a growing number of reading rooms established by KEEP Liberia in schools and communities throughout the country. KEEP Liberia has established 53 reading rooms, expanding access to books and creating reader-friendly learning environments. The organization continues to integrate digital learning opportunities into its literacy programs.
KEEP Liberia remains committed to building partnerships that empower students, strengthen schools, and create sustainable opportunities for learning.
