Parents of Kashenyi Secondary School in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District, Uganda, have organized a fundraising event scheduled for March 13, 2027. The goal is to raise UGX 673,117,000 to complete the construction of a girls' dormitory, which is currently at ground-floor level. This initiative was decided upon during the school's Annual General Meeting held on the school premises.

The construction of the dormitory is being undertaken by Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company. The project aims to address the overcrowding issue among girls who are currently housed in small hostels. Additionally, the new facility will provide space for potential enrollment growth. Kashenyi Secondary School currently has 1,209 students, which puts significant pressure on its existing facilities.

Headteacher Rev. Ivan Mwongyera highlighted that the school faces a shortage of essential infrastructure, including dormitories, classrooms, an Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, a science laboratory, and a library. These additions are crucial for improving students' learning conditions. Despite these challenges, Rev. Mwongyera noted that the school has made progress, including providing access to safe drinking water and constructing a gravity-fed water supply system.

The school has also installed security lights around its compound and purchased a generator to ensure a stable power supply. Furthermore, the school has implemented regular learner assessments and provides support for O-Level and A-Level candidates. These improvements aim to enhance the overall learning environment for the students at Kashenyi Secondary School.

PTA Vice Chairperson John Arineitwe emphasized that parents have prioritized the completion of the girls' dormitory. Future plans include the construction of a boys' dormitory, a modern kitchen, and a science laboratory. Arineitwe appealed to well-wishers, former students, politicians, and other stakeholders to support the March fundraiser, stressing that contributions will help improve infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment.

In addition to the fundraising efforts, parents were urged to pay at least 50 per cent of school fees at the beginning of each term to prevent disruptions to students' studies. Former Kashenyi students were encouraged to join the Kashenyi Old Boys and Old Girls Association, whose members have already made significant contributions, including donating 272 bags of cement toward the ongoing dormitory construction.

The completion of the girls' dormitory is expected to have a positive impact on the students' living conditions and academic performance. The school's administration remains committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. The fundraising event on March 13, 2027, will be a crucial step toward achieving this goal.
