Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the implementation of promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The approval follows a request submitted by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, seeking the release of ₦235,116,339.09 for the implementation of the promotions across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

The promotions, which cover the January and July 2026 cycles, include eligible teaching and non-teaching personnel whose promotions had been processed, along with corresponding salary adjustment calculations. SUBEB stated that timely implementation of promotions is essential for staff motivation, career development, capacity strengthening, and improved service delivery within the basic education sector.

SUBEB, one of the largest public institutions in Kano State, has approximately 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs. The Board has been dealing with outstanding promotion backlogs, including arrears spanning seven years and another backlog of one-and-a-half years. Governor Yusuf had previously approved and ensured the implementation of the outstanding promotions.

The intervention had significantly boosted staff morale, restored confidence in the service, and demonstrated the administration's commitment to the welfare of public servants. SUBEB explained that it had completed all necessary arrangements and processes for the January and July 2026 promotions, including staff eligibility verification and salary adjustment computations.

The Governor's approval was ratified at a recent State Executive Council meeting, paving the way for the release of the approved funds for the implementation of the promotions. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the basic education sector in Kano State.

The promotions and salary implementation are part of the administration's efforts to improve the welfare of public servants and enhance service delivery in the education sector. SUBEB's efforts to address the promotion backlogs have been ongoing, with the Board working to ensure that staff members receive their due promotions and salary adjustments in a timely manner.

With the release of ₦235.1m, SUBEB will be able to implement the promotions and provide the necessary salary adjustments to the affected staff members. This development is expected to motivate staff and improve their overall job satisfaction, ultimately benefiting the education sector in Kano State.
