Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged political leaders in the North and North-West to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027. Speaking in Kano while receiving 50 branded vehicles donated to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation, Yusuf argued that power should remain in the South for a corresponding period following former President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year tenure.
Yusuf cited an informal political understanding between northern and southern political interests, stating that the presidency should remain in the South for another four years after Tinubu's tenure. He said Tinubu had spent about three and a half years in office and should be allowed to complete the South's eight-year period by securing another term. The governor declared that Kano and the North-West would support Tinubu's re-election.
The 50 vehicles donated by the APC will be deployed to support APC political structures and campaign activities across Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Yusuf described the donation as a demonstration of commitment to and confidence in the APC and Tinubu's administration. He said Kano remained committed to strengthening the APC, engaging the electorate, and implementing programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement has been conducting grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu's re-election, including the distribution of campaign vehicles in other northern states. The movement's national coordinator is a young person and former student union leader, highlighting the role of young Nigerians in the mobilisation exercise. Coordinators and ambassadors will be positioned at ward and polling-unit levels to engage directly with residents and explain the administration's policies and programmes.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, commended Yusuf for his support for Tinubu's re-election bid. Guwor identified the removal of the fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, and ongoing infrastructure projects as some of the major policies of the Tinubu administration, citing projects in Kano State, including the rail project and the revamp of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
Guwor stated that the movement was targeting broad support for Tinubu across the country, with coordinators and ambassadors to be positioned at ward and polling-unit levels to engage directly with residents. He added that the movement's plan is to knock on every door and every home, so that people will give their massive support to the President. Yusuf also called for issue-based campaigns ahead of the elections, urging politicians to focus on their programmes and records rather than personal attacks.
Yusuf expressed appreciation to Tompolo and the APC delegation for the donation, saying the Kano government and people appreciated the gesture. He also urged political parties and their supporters to shun violence and other criminal activities during the electioneering period. The governor said the APC would campaign for Tinubu at the presidential level, as well as for its candidates at state and federal levels, in the 2027 elections.
