Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made serious allegations against President William Ruto's administration, claiming they plan to influence the 2027 General Election by mobilising voters across the Uganda border. Speaking during a political rally in Busia County on Saturday, September 26, 2026, Kalonzo questioned recent reports of political mobilisation in the Ugandan border and linked them to remarks and actions by senior government officials.
Kalonzo cited Kenya Kwanza leaders who crossed into neighbouring Uganda for a cross-border political meeting on Friday, which brought together political mobilisation, concerns over the movement and documentation of Kenyans living and working along the border, as well as security concerns. The meeting was led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and also called for closer security cooperation between Kenya and Uganda as political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Ukombozi Alliance Party leader was reacting to concerns raised by DP leader JB Muturi over efforts that could undermine the independence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Muturi challenged the electoral commission to demonstrate its independence ahead of the 2027 polls, while questioning the conduct of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Kalonzo, who was accompanied by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa and Muturi during the Busia engagements, also revisited his political partnership with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He claimed that the duo faced electoral setbacks in the 2013 and 2017 elections, before accusing President Ruto of being responsible for what he described as electoral theft.
Kalonzo recalled past remarks directed at Raila, saying his political opponents had once threatened to transport the opposition leader to Bondo using a wheelbarrow. He also criticised the government over the rising cost of living and the deterioration of the education sector, citing his time as Education Minister and claiming credit for initiatives that expanded access to education and the establishment of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
The Wiper leader defended his record in fighting for constitutionalism and the rule of law, citing his participation in legal challenges over the proposed sale of a 15 per cent stake in Safaricom and the proposed JKIA deal, adding that he had represented Gen Z protesters who were abducted and later charged. The Busia rallies brought together opposition leaders as they sought to consolidate their political partnership ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Key to Kalonzo's message was his assertion that President Ruto's administration is attempting to manipulate the electoral process, with the alleged plan to give Ugandans IDs to vote in Kenya being a prime example. He stated, "Ata ukiongeza kura Uganda, wewe ni one term!" ("If you add votes from Uganda, you will only serve one term!"), emphasising his opposition to what he sees as undue influence on Kenya's electoral process.
