A 29-year-old man was arrested in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, Kenya, after allegedly killing his sister-in-law, Patience Penesi, 23, with a machete. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning as Patience was walking her child to school in Ila village. According to witnesses, the attack began after Patience returned home and found the door to her house locked, prompting her to ask her brother-in-law to open it.
The confrontation between Patience and her brother-in-law turned deadly, with the suspect allegedly hacking her with a machete. Patience died at the scene, while her four-year-old child, who was with her at the time of the attack, sustained cuts on the head and abdomen. The child was rushed to St. Elizabeth Mission Hospital in Mukumu for treatment.
The motive behind the attack is believed to be a dispute over the locked door. Patience's husband is currently working in Qatar, and it is unclear why the door was locked. A relative stated that Patience's belongings are still at the gate, suggesting that she may have been planning to return home.
The suspect is currently in custody at a local police station, with Area Chief Ben confirming his arrest. However, residents in the area expressed frustration over the emergency response, citing a lack of a police van as a reason for the delay. The body of the deceased has since been transferred to Kakamega Referral Hospital.
