Jumia Nigeria, the country's leading e-commerce platform, is deepening its investment in artificial intelligence, contact centre automation and logistics infrastructure to improve customer experience and reduce delivery-related challenges. This move aims to strengthen confidence in online shopping and reflects the growing importance of technology, operational efficiency and personalised support in Nigeria's expanding digital retail market. The company made this disclosure during Customer Service Week, under the global theme "Going the Extra Mile".
Exceptional customer service, according to Jumia, extends beyond responding to complaints and resolving support tickets to taking responsibility for the entire shopping experience, from order placement and delivery to after-sales support. The company's approach acknowledges the growing complexity of e-commerce operations, where customer satisfaction depends on the ease of navigating digital platforms, the reliability of delivery networks and the speed of problem resolution.
Jumia's Head of Customer Operations emphasised that the company is strengthening collaboration between customer service and logistics teams to address delivery challenges promptly and keep customers informed throughout the process. When deliveries are delayed or customers encounter difficulties receiving orders, the Customer Operations team works with the Logistics team to establish the cause, provide updates and coordinate efforts towards successful delivery.
This approach is particularly important when incorrect addresses, local distribution difficulties and other logistical constraints affect order fulfilment. Jumia, which began operations in Lagos in 2012, has progressively invested in technology and logistics infrastructure to expand online shopping access across Nigeria and other African markets. The company's investment in logistics infrastructure has enabled it to operate over 350 Pickup Stations across Nigeria.
As of 2025, Jumia reported that it was supported by a network of 67 logistics partners. More than half of its orders reportedly originated from secondary cities and remote areas, underscoring the importance of last-mile delivery to its business model. These figures highlight the growing role of logistics in determining customer satisfaction as e-commerce platforms extend their reach beyond major urban centres.
Jumia's efforts to improve customer service are driven by its recognition of the importance of taking ownership beyond simply answering a customer's complaint. The company said that going the extra mile means taking responsibility for the entire shopping experience, from order placement to after-sales support. This approach aims to build trust and confidence in online shopping.
The company's investment in AI, contact centre automation and logistics infrastructure is expected to enhance the overall customer experience and strengthen Jumia's position in Nigeria's e-commerce market. By prioritising customer satisfaction and investing in technology and logistics, Jumia aims to set a new standard for customer service in the industry.
