Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary John Boadu has taken the lead in the party's national chairmanship contest, according to a survey by Global InfoAnalytics. The poll, released on September 30, puts Mr Boadu at 48%, giving him a 10-percentage-point lead over former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 38%. This latest survey indicates a significant shift in support for the aspirants.
The findings are based on Global InfoAnalytics' Committed Delegates Model, which measures support among delegates considered committed to the party's upcoming national executive elections. The model provides a net favourability rating for each aspirant, with Mr Boadu recording +64, followed by Mr Agyarko at +58, Mr Afoko at +45, and Mr Crabbe at +39. These ratings suggest that Mr Boadu is not only leading in terms of popularity but also in terms of favourability among party delegates.
The September 30 survey results differ significantly from those published in Global InfoAnalytics' September 2 survey, which placed Mr Boadu at 23.3% and Mr Agyarko at 17.7%. At the time, 41.3% of respondents were undecided. This indicates a substantial increase in support for Mr Boadu and a decrease in undecided respondents, suggesting that the NPP chairmanship race is becoming more defined.
According to Global InfoAnalytics, the survey used random probability sampling across Ghana's 16 regions, drawing from the 2026 NPP constituencies register. The research was conducted through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI), with the firm reporting a 98% confidence level and a margin of error of plus or minus 1.34 percentage points. This methodological approach ensures that the survey results are reliable and representative of the NPP delegates.
Former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko follows with 12%, while former First Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe records 2%, according to the survey. These numbers suggest that while Mr Afoko and Mr Crabbe have some level of support, they trail significantly behind Mr Boadu and Mr Agyarko in the chairmanship race. The survey results provide valuable insights into the current state of the NPP's national executive elections.
The poll comes ahead of the NPP's national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026. The elections will determine the party's leadership and could have significant implications for the NPP's future. With Mr Boadu leading in the polls, it will be interesting to see if he can maintain his position and secure the chairmanship.
The NPP chairmanship race has garnered significant attention, with various aspirants vying for the top position. The Global InfoAnalytics poll provides a snapshot of the current state of the race, highlighting Mr Boadu's lead and the challenges faced by other aspirants.
