John Boadu, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been elected as the national chairman of the party. He won the position with 2,888 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Boakye Agyarko, who secured 2,408 votes. The election took place at the NPP's National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, which was attended by 7,163 delegates. The conference was part of the party's reorganisation efforts ahead of the 2028 elections.

The NPP has made significant changes to its constitution, making the flag bearer the leader of the party. This move is expected to strengthen the party's leadership and organisation. John Boadu's election marks a remarkable comeback for him, as he was previously ousted as national organiser and deputy general secretary in 2022. His victory is seen as a significant development in the party's quest to regain power in 2028.

In his victory speech, John Boadu called for party unity and extended a hand of friendship and partnership to those who contested but did not win. He emphasised the need for the party to listen, consult more, organise better, and prepare more deliberately for the future. Boadu also stressed the importance of engaging with voluntary groups, TESCON members, social media practitioners, and the traditional media.

The NPP also elected other national executives, including Kojo Fosu Boadu, Henry Nana Boakye, and Nana Akomea as First, Second, and Third Vice-Chairpersons, respectively. The party's 2028 flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, commended the party for a successful conference and congratulated the newly elected national leadership. He assured unsuccessful contestants that they would be part of the campaign for the 2028 elections.

The conference was attended by several high-ranking officials, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and former chiefs of staff, Kwadwo Mpiani and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare. The event was held on the theme: "One party, one purpose: United for victory". The voting process was characterised by long queues, despite the creation of 21 polling stations.

The election saw several other contests, including the General Secretary position, which was won by incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong with 4,483 votes. Mavis Hawa Koomson was elected as the Women's Organiser, while Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover secured the National Organiser position. Other executives elected included Alfred Kojo Thompson as Treasurer, Abanga Yakubu Fusani as National Youth Organiser, and Mohammed Ali Suraj as Nasara Organiser.

John Boadu has pledged to work closely with regional and constituency executives, external branches, the parliamentary caucus, party members, patrons, and every organised group to strengthen the party. He has also promised to deepen the party's relationship with its voluntary groups and engage with the business community and Ghanaian entrepreneurs. The NPP is expected to use the momentum from the conference to drive its reorganisation efforts and prepare for the 2028 elections.
