Chinese automobile brand Jetour has embarked on an off-road vehicle expedition along the Lagos coast, combining the adventure with a community development initiative. The 2026 Jetour Africa Expedition, which began with a convoy drive from Falomo Square, Ikoyi, featured eight of its sport utility vehicles (SUVs) navigating challenging coastal terrain. The convoy comprised various Jetour models, including the Dashing, X50, X70 Plus, X90 Plus, T2, T2 PHEV, X70 PHEV, and flagship G700.
The SUVs tackled a combination of swampy stretches, rocky surfaces, and uneven trails, providing a practical test of the vehicles beyond normal urban driving conditions. With support from personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the convoy moved away from conventional urban roads and navigated difficult surfaces along the coastal route. This expedition allowed Jetour to demonstrate the capabilities of its growing SUV range while strengthening its engagement with communities along the route.
The expedition reached its social highlight at the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School in Iwerekun Orile, where Jetour Nigeria commissioned a solar-powered borehole. The project aimed to provide a reliable source of clean water for pupils and residents of the surrounding community. The event attracted schoolchildren, traditional leaders, farmers, and market women, who welcomed the Jetour team with cultural performances. The company also distributed food items to households and provided books and refreshments to pupils.
A representative of Jetour Nigeria, Kemi Adeola, emphasized that the community intervention was intended to demonstrate the company's commitment to impacting communities beyond vehicle sales and promotion. The traditional ruler of Iwerekun Orile, High Chief Michael Oluwa, described the solar-powered water project as an unprecedented development in the community's history. He pledged that residents would protect and maintain the facility to ensure its continued service to the school and surrounding population.
The Head Teacher of the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Mrs Ariyike Bakre, expressed appreciation to Jetour for bringing the project to Iwerekun Orile. She described the facility as a lifetime gift to the school and community. The expedition continued with participants returning from the demanding coastal drive and concluded at a beach lounge, where they relaxed with food, music, and entertainment.
The Lagos expedition served two purposes: showcasing Jetour's SUVs in demanding terrain and delivering a practical facility to a community along the route. The event demonstrated the company's brand association with adventure, technology, lifestyle, and social impact.
