The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revised its policy on swapping candidates' registered GSM numbers and changing registered email addresses. This change aims to assist candidates who have lost access to their SIM cards or email accounts. The new policy, which took effect on September 21, 2026, introduces a controlled process to update details through secure and controlled measures.
According to JAMB spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, Ph.D., the new arrangement enables candidates who have lost their registered SIM numbers or are unable to use them for subsequent UTME exercises to update their details. Candidates whose registered email accounts can no longer be recovered can also update their information. This initiative aims to reduce the hardship associated with losing access to registered credentials and make tertiary education admission processes more seamless.
The concession is subject to strict authentication procedures designed to prevent impersonation, fraud, and unauthorized alteration of candidates' records. The SIM swap and/or email change service is available only once. Candidates can access this service at JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centres, including State Offices where applicable. To utilize the service, candidates must present the new GSM number and/or email address and a duly executed court affidavit.
To access the SIM swap and email change service, candidates are required to follow a step-by-step procedure. They must log into their e-Facility profile using existing credentials, select "SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment," and pay the prescribed fee. At the JAMB CBT Centre, they will access the SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink, undergo biometric verification, and enter their new GSM number and/or email address.
The process also requires candidates to upload a scanned court affidavit and click "Update" to complete the process. A confirmation message will be displayed upon successful completion. JAMB advises candidates to use the service strictly for genuine cases and patronize only designated JAMB CBT Centres.
The reviewed policy reflects JAMB's commitment to combining strong data security with candidate-friendly service delivery. The goal is to ensure that genuine candidates are not unnecessarily disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control. This move is expected to reduce the trauma associated with the loss of access to candidates' registered credentials.
The introduction of enhanced security measures, particularly stronger identity and biometric verification processes, has made it possible for JAMB to review its policy. The Board's aim is to make the processes leading to tertiary education admission more seamless while maintaining the integrity of the admission process.
